Scene Critique

Your story is built one scene at a time. Let’s make sure each one pulls its weight.

Get targeted, professional feedback on individual chapters or scenes so you can revise with purpose, without committing to a full edit.

About the Scene Critique

Sometimes, you don’t need a full edit—you just need thoughtful, focused feedback on a single scene.

Maybe you’re testing out a new story idea, refining your voice, or polishing a short story before submission. Or perhaps you’ve rewritten a section after earlier feedback and want to make sure your revision works.

A scene critique gives you professional insight on a short piece (up to 3,000 words), so you can make confident choices in your writing and continue honing your craft.

It’s also a perfect complement to other services—like a developmental edit or line writing assessment—when you want to test your revisions or get targeted feedback on new material.

Price: $85 (USD) up to 3,000 words

If your scene is significantly longer, just let me know, and we’ll discuss your options.

Format: Microsoft Word (.docx) with tracked changes

Please export your file as a Word doc before sending. Don’t have Microsoft Word? No problem! You can use the free online version or download a trial to review the edits.

I do not edit in PDF, Scrivener, or other writing tools—please export your file as a .docx

Sample edit: Because this critique is short and focused, I don’t offer a sample edit. But if you’d like to get a feel for what my feedback looks like, I’m happy to share a sample from a past critique. Just send me a message!

Genre fit: I specialize in fantasy, cozy mystery, and self-help nonfiction. Not sure if your book is a good fit? Just ask. I’m happy to take a look.

This Is for You If...

  • You want focused, professional feedback on a specific scene or short story.

  • You’re working on a novel and want to refine your scenes before diving into deeper edits.

  • You’ve revised part of your manuscript and want to know if the changes resonate.

  • You’re experimenting with a new genre, POV, or voice and want to see if it’s working.

  • You’re looking to improve your craft without committing to a full manuscript service.

  • You’re feeling unsure about the emotional or narrative impact of a key scene—and want clarity before moving on.

"Absolutely wonderful! Kind and helpful, yet did not hold back on her critique. She gave very detailed feedback with additional articles to help me improve in leaps and bounds. Will definitely be requesting additional services in the future!"
